Cheng Daoyuan is a Taipei-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans experimental sound, video, and installation. He has long worked with sound at the core of his practice, extending it into mixed-media and spatial forms. His work explores ambiguous imagery shaped by the coexistence of opposites—between inner consciousness and external contours, appearance and disappearance, the concrete and the unnameable.
Active in Taiwan's experimental sound scene since 2015, Cheng has developed a sonic aesthetic grounded in murky, heavy post-industrial textures. He combines high-pressure noise, abstract electronic textures, and intricately shifting layers to construct sonic landscapes that oscillate between violence and stillness. His work has been released and presented across numerous international labels and platforms through albums, compilation appearances, remixes, co-productions, and live performances. His debut album, 旣 Apeiron, was reissued as a double CD in 2024 by the French label WV Sorcerer Productions.
He has gradually extended his sonic aesthetic into multichannel sound, mixed-media installation, video, and physical theatre. His solo and collaborative works have been presented at festivals and exhibitions in Taiwan and internationally, including the Taiwan Art Biennial, the MUTEK online event Nexus Experience, the Melbourne International Film Festival, SAT Festival in Canada, and A Bunch of Noise Festival in China. One of his collaborative works was also named a finalist for the Taishin Arts Award. Through the transformations and refractions that occur among sound, image, objects, and the body, Cheng continues to explore boundaries, perceptual shifts, and states of ambiguity.
A Bunch Of Noise Festival

Cheng Daoyuan is a Taipei-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans experimental sound, video, and installation. He has long worked with sound at the core of his practice, extending it into mixed-media and spatial practices. His work examines the overlap between inner consciousness and external contours, seeking ambiguous imagery shaped by the coexistence of opposites—between appearance and disappearance, the concrete and the unnameable.
Active in Taiwan's experimental sound scene since 2015, Cheng has developed a sonic aesthetic grounded in murky, heavy post-industrial textures. He combines high-pressure noise energy, abstract electronic textures, and intricately shifting layers to construct soundscapes that oscillate between violence and stillness. His works often unfold between abrasive and subtle sonic states, condensing contradictions and tensions that resist clear definition amid pressure, stasis, and drift.
Cheng's sound works have appeared across international labels and platforms in the form of albums, compilation appearances, remixes, and co-productions. In 2019, he released his debut album, 旣 Apeiron, which was reissued as a double CD in 2024 by the French label WV Sorcerer Productions. As his sound practice has continued to evolve, he has expanded into multichannel sound, mixed-media installation, video, and physical theatre. For Cheng, sound is not only an auditory form but also a medium that carries states of consciousness, perceptual experience, and reflections on existence. Different media, in turn, allow him to expand the structures and perceptual layers of his work.
During his residency in C-LAB's CREATORS Sound Off program, he presented DOOME: Null Gods, a 49.4-channel mixed-media work. He subsequently developed its follow-up, DOOMAIN, with support from a grant from the National Culture and Arts Foundation. His solo and collaborative works have been presented at festivals and exhibitions in Taiwan and internationally, including the Taiwan Art Biennial, TheCube Forum Music Festival, the MUTEK online event Nexus Experience, and A Bunch of Noise Festival in China. His collaborative immersive fulldome audiovisual work INNERSTAR 01: Reddening was selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival and SAT Fest in Canada, while his collaborative interdisciplinary performance Re-Fracture was named a finalist for the 22nd Taishin Arts Award.
Through sound, video, installation, and other media, Cheng continues to construct an artistic framework centred on the coexistence of opposites, boundaries, and perceptual transformation. His practice does not simply juxtapose different forms; rather, through transformations and refractions across media, he sustains an exploration of ambiguous states among sound, image, objects, and the body.
A Bunch of Noise Festival
